Simon & Schuster
2011
Simon & Schuster are an international book publishing company founded in 1924 which now forms part of the CBS Corporation. Simon & Schuster publish approximately 200 titles annually, including many well known and award winning authors.
Morphos was invited to attend an inspection of Simon & Schuster’s short listed property options, receive a brief from local Managing Director Lou Johnson and propose solutions that would suit the businesses requirements and demonstrate the capability by morphos to tackle the project.
After submitting a creative yet budget conscious pitch that met with the vision outlined by Lou, Morphos were approved locally and by CBS executives in New York and selected to work with the company to develop the concept and undertake the fitout of the new home for Simon & Schuster in Sydney.
As testament to the strength of the proposal, only minor changes were made to the initial space plans as presented.
Once the job was awarded to morphos the design development process consisted of a joint effort between Lou and Morphos designer Nicola Plummer.
The newly built office space located in Cammeray was leased without any base building works, including essential services (such as fire, air conditioning and lighting) flooring, wall lining or ceiling grid. This presented a great opportunity to work with the raw concrete, brick work and exposed ceiling to contrast other natural materials, along with contrasting statement colours and furniture to create a unique and inspiring workplace for the Simon & Schuster staff.
Morphos worked with both Simon & Schuster and the Landlord, Stockland, to co-ordinate the installation of base building services to suit the new fitout and undertook all necessary arrangements with North Sydney Council to obtain planning approvals.
Overall it is a well presented, conceptual and very workable space that has had a fantastic response by both staff and clients.
